Situational Assessments
Situational Assessment is the process of systematic observation for evaluating work-related behaviors and performance as well as barriers to performance in a controlled work environment. Although any type of task or situation may be used, paid work is often used in order to add relevance. The element distinguishing situational assessment from other types of assessment is the capability to systematically vary demands in order to evaluate work-related behaviors (e.g., social skills, quantity of work and use of materials). This process also includes the evaluation of the strengths, abilities, needs and preferences of the person served in a real-life setting; giving them the opportunity to demonstrate competencies without relying solely on previous evaluations and/or standardized testing methods.
Situational Assessment evaluates each activity with regards to:
- Adequate supervision
- Appropriate safety considerations
- Interpersonal behaviors
- Job accommodations
- Physical accessibility
- Quality and quantity of work
- Range of motion needed to perform each task
- Tasks and demands related to the goals of situational assessment
- Transportation accessibility
- Interests
