The ProWorks Summer Youth Employment Program often seeks to hire high school and college students during the months of May through August to cover “regular” employees’ summer vacations, and therefore, to ensure the continuation of individual consumer programs. Furthermore, this program provides young people a “positive” opportunity to develop an awareness and a greater appreciation for the abilities and needs of persons with disabilities. Finally, as we embrace diversity in the workplace, this program provides a “youthful” perspective to ProWorks’ services.
Hiring preference is often given to children of ProWorks employees; parents are encouraged to bring their children of any age to visit the program periodically. Parents have likely shared with their families about individuals and events that have occurred at work, and they would do this, as they would speak of any other friend. So when these children are employed through the summer program they already have good knowledge of the individuals and services that we offer.
The Summer Youth Employment Program supports ProWorks commitment to improving the lives of persons with disabilities by providing education and raising awareness within their communities.
A failure is not always a mistake, it may simply be the best one can do under the circumstances. The real mistake is to stop trying.” – B.F. Skinner
